Coalition increase Unemployment and Borrowing

The Conservative driven coalition has succeeded in beating the previous Conservative governments’ statistics for unemployment. And beaten the previous Conservative governments’ record on debt.

Cond-Dems Smash Unemployment Record

The ConDems have increased unemployment by 118,000 during the three months period to November to 2.69 million, as stated by the Office of National Statistics. The highest figure ever since 1996.

Not really a record to be pleased with, except if you are Conservative.

Cameron duplicated his traditional speech he uses on these circumstances word for word; The Prime Minister, David Cameron, said the figures were not good news: "Any increase in unemployment is disappointing and obviously a tragedy for the person who becomes unemployed - that is why we are taking action to get people back to work".

We Are trying to Get People Working

Cameron smugly said that throughout the same time frame 18,000 people had found work. Against the extra 118,000 more people out of work, it is a pitiful record.

Youth unemployment went up again [where’s all these new apprentices?] to hit a new record of 1.043m, taking the rate for 16-24 year-olds to 22.3%.

"We're taking action to try and get people returning to work" A weak and demoralising announcement made by an arrogant politician who is trying to bankrupt the country.

Storm in a Teacup.

There was a lot of fuss about Cameron saying NO to closer fiscal union for Britain in the EU. France sounded off with a barrage of insults and threats, but nobody took much notice, mainly because this is what the French do. Germany tried to cover it up by saying that Britain was still a close and valued member.

Cameron didn’t really have much choice, the British people would not have put up with interference in our fiscal policy, which was the subject of the conference.

Cameron did engineer the bust up to a certain extent. Normal policy in this type of situation is to liaise with the foreign office on an agreed strategy, which the foreign office would circulate to all EU members 7 to 10 days before hand, and try and get an agreement in principal.

Cameron left it until the middle of the night when all the members were tired, and in no mood for pandering to Cameron, when more important matters were at stake.

Clegg although  agreed with Cameron prior to Cameron’s Brussels trip, Clegg has used the backlash to distance himself and his party from the decision, and has actively started to lay down the ground rules for campaigning for re-election.

You may remember it was the Lib Dems who drafted the University fees bill, and it is the Lib Dems who are negotiating with the unions over pensions and retirement ages, it would appear that if they could force a general election now, the Lib Dems would probably be wiped off the face of British politics. But they won’t do that, they value their jobs more than anything else.

Coalition Split: UK marginalized

Nick Clegg went on television and blasted Cameron’s efforts at the EU summit, saying “The UK was now isolated and marginalized, which would put jobs at risk”. He also said “the 26 members would gang up on the UK to impose the Financial Regulation Act”

Clegg had apparently agreed with David Cameron the stance he should take.

It looks as though Nick clegg has just woken up to the fact that his party is being used to wipe the floor. He appears to be taking this stance in order to position his party on the high ground, should the Lib Dems decide to split with the Conservatives and force another election

The Coalition was forecast to last only 2 years before it disintegrated, maybe this is the start of the break-up of this coalition.

Smart Phone Apps Scams.

There have been many warnings over these, but this scam is difficult to detect until it is too late. This particular scam is rather nasty, as it can cost you hundreds if not thousands of pounds, and if you use your bank account via your smart phone, you might find your bank account has been compromised.

The Malware apps can be downloaded as security ware, or additions to apps already available, it is thought that some of these are also available on genuine download sites, as well as look alike sites.

Once installed on your phone any or all of the following is available to the fraudsters.

Our Caring Government- Fair Government

The news that approximately 1 in 5 children  are below the poverty line  in the UK is  horrific  , the IFS expect another 600,00 children  will be pushed  into poverty by the governments inaction  during the next 2 years, in total  3.1 million children will be existing  in “absolute” poverty by 2013 ,   as well as  2.5 million working-age parents and four million working-age adults without children. By 2020, the IFS is projecting there will be 4.7 million working-age adults without children in absolute poverty.

The Caring, Fair minded government will wait until another 600,000 children are in Absolute Poverty before they act.
After 2013 when another 600,000 children are added to our list of shame, the ConDems planned introduction the Universal Credit scheme, the IFS is forecasting that absolute child poverty will fall by 100,000 to three million in 2014 and 2015. That is providing the parents are working.
A Department for Work and Pensions spokesman said benefits changes would tackle poverty by "making work pay". Yes maybe it will, the only problem is that the Coalition are creating higher unemployment, to make it much more difficult to get even a low paid job , or part time job

The Tory Conference

The Tory party conference has thankfully come to an end. It was a bit drab, and concentrated on trying to focus the party faithful.

David Cameron had to have his speech re-written at the last minute, the press releases created so much back lash, due to one tiny phrase.

It was a reference to the credit situation, where he said we must all reduce our debt, the government must do more, the banks need to reduce debt, and the general public SHOULD PAY OFF THEIR CREDIT CARDS AND STORE CARD DEBTS. This was changed due to the backlash after the press released this content; he did say instead ‘the public are paying off their credit and store card debts’ My colleague Vic Farron wrote in September “consumers were more cautious in borrowing through overdrafts, credit cards and loans. Repayments in August on unsecured loans exceeded unsecured borrowing by approximately £100m”

The conservatives implied that they didn’t know what to do next, they admitted what they had done in the past had failed, one of the things they blamed their failure on was the last recession, 2008/09 which they claimed was shorter and deeper than normal. I think that was a back handed compliment to the Labour party and George Brown, who rallied the world leaders into supporting their banks.

They didn’t actually say how long how they expected the cuts and hardship to go on for, the general consensus is at least 10 years. They have succeeded to stifle growth completed, the planned demolition of the health service has started, on TV it was announced that one practice in York had written to clients saying certain minor operation would not be funded by the NHS.They did say they would have to go private, and suggested 4 private clinics, the nearest private clinic was owned by the practice.

I was not the only person to sigh as the TV coverage of the conference finished, and ‘A Party Political Broadcast on behalf of the Conservative Party’ began. If you didn’t see it, you missed a masterpiece in P.R. and damage limitation.

There was a lot of talk in the Conservative party, and the country as a whole about the extra £3bn allocated to the overseas budget. I wrote an article on the subject, I must take my hat off to the people responsible for that broadcast, it did more good for conservatism, than the whole of the conference, the only thing wrong with it was – I didn’t write it.

Uni Fees in a mess

The NUS says Scotland is set to become the most expensive place in the UK to study for UK and EU students, with charges in some places of up to £36,000, compared with £27,000 in England, the reason being is that many degrees offered north of the border take four years to complete not three.

Scottish students residing in Scotland will not have to pay the fees. Fees only apply to students from other parts of the UK and the EU. Students from anywhere else in the world but the UK and the EU will have their fees paid by the Scottish government.

The Scottish government is seeking an end to rules where it has to pay the fees of students living in non UK or EU countries, which it says is costing the taxpayer £75m a year.

The legality of the fees plan has been questioned by the Scottish Conservatives and suggested it could stir up resentment in the rest of the UK against Scotland.

Unemploymet Rising: Cameron Makes Outrageous Claims

UK Unemployment on the Increase
The economist predicted a rise in unemployment this last quarter of 70,000. In actual fact, the total number of jobless increased by 80,000 between May and June, the largest quarterly increase since the three months to August 2009.
Cameron again started pulling statistics out of the air, when he came under pressure regarding the high unemployment figures. He was asked several times by Ed Milliband what he was going to do about the high unemployment figures, Cameron did say he sympathised with people out of work, and would do all he could.
During Prime Minister’s Questions, 14 September 2011, David Cameron said
“These figures are disappointing but we shouldn’t ignore the fact that since the election there are 500,000 more jobs in the private sector and employment overall, there are 300,000 more people in work than there were a year ago.”
Well actually we should ignore them, because they don’t stack up.

MPs to talk to Police

David Cameron has told parliament that MPs should pass any information they have on phone hacking to the police. You may remember an article ‘Fighting Talk from Vince Cable’ in which Vic Farron wrote.... Vince Cable expressed some of his personal thoughts to the two undercover reporters who recorded the whole conversation. It was the remark he made, that he had declared war on Richard Murdock over the purchase of BSkyB, apparently he had discovered a legal precedent which would stop the deal, hence the terminology ‘ declared war’ "We've stopped Murdoch taking over BSkyB, or referred it to the competition authorities.”That would have never happened under the Tories. They would have just said, 'Here you are Mr Murdoch, how much do you want?” Vince Cable was right about that, as he was also right about child benefit being cut.
It would appear that with the confidence Vince cable had about stopping the BSkyB takeover, he had probably discovered more on the phone hacking than was already known. He was publicly and privately admonished by David Cameron and Nick Clegg over his remarks, and removed from the post of overseeing the BSkyB takeover.

James Murdocks Evidence Refuted

James Murdock’s evidence given to the Culture committee has been refuted by two News International executives. Mr Murdoch told the culture committee he had not been "aware" of an email suggesting the practice went wider than a "rogue" News of the World reporter. Ex News International legal manager Tom Crone and ex News of the World editor Colin Myler both say they informed James Murdock about the email.

In a separate incident, the board of BSkyB is to meet to ask Rupert Murdock to stand down as chairman of the board. They stress this has nothing to do with his evidence, merely that under the circumstances they believe he will not have enough time to fulfil his duties as chairman.read the full article
